No!! Stop, Wait!! What are you eating? Did you give it a check? Anyways, have you heard of a saying “You are what you eat”? If yes, then you must be aware that in no better place on this earth it can be seen through your teeth. Do you agree? But you must be thinking that how our teeth is the reflection of our health? It happens because everything you eat comes in contact with your teeth first. But the question arises here is “What makes the food bad?” The answer to the question is, that bacteria living in the mouth burns sugar in order to thrive which makes the food bad to intake.
And this clearly means you have some food choices to make that can contribute to the wear and tear of your pearly whites. So, foods that are both “Sugary” and “Sticky” are bad for your teeth. It is because the food that are sticky tends to “Stick” around and stay longer on the teeth which makes a greater chance for bacteria to run amok and create cavity in the tooth. And also foods that are acidic can also be a poor choice for your teeth. Because acidic food has the potential to damage your tooth enamels. Food and Drinks that are sugary and acidic “Double the Trouble for Teeth”.

- Sweet & Sour Candies
Obviously, it is not at all a surprise that candies are bad for your mouth. But especially those are sour contains more and different type of acids that are tougher on your teeth. And also, they are chewy, they stick around your teeth for longer time and can cause tooth decay. But if you are badly craving to grab some sweet you can go for a chocolate. Yes, chocolate is also not that good for healthy teeth but you can consider it on behalf of a sticky candy. As chocolate will wash away easily and quickly than those sticky candies you will eat.
- Alcohol and Soft Drinks
We all are aware that drinking alcohol is bad for health. But we also know that intake of alcohol in limit amount is good for health. OK, now let me ask you a question here, have you ever realized that drinking alcohol dry your mouth? Because a dry mouth lacks of saliva and saliva is a major factor of keeping your teeth healthy. It prevents food from sticking around your teeth and washes away food elements. So, to help keep your mouth hydrated intake plenty of water and use fluoride rinses and oral hydration solution.
Syrupy drinks like soda and sports drinks are very bad for teeth. If you think you are taking diet soft drinks then let me tell you they are more worsen than soft drinks. They are less sugary but it does not mean they lack acidity.
- Citrus FoodAny food that contains high amount of Citrus element like Oranges, Grapefruits, Tomato and lemons are both tasty and healthy. As they are fruits and juicy but it is not good for teeth health. Because there acidic elements can erode enamel, making teeth more prone to decay. But you also need to have it because they are good for health. In that case you can include this citrus food with your meals that will not harm that much and remember to rinse away your mouth with water after you complete the meal with citrus food.
Yes, I know now you will say how ice can affect teeth? It only contains water? Yes, it is absolutely true it only contains water and nothing else. But chewing ice can create the dental emergency like crack, chipped, broken or loosened crowns. Use ice to chill your drink but never go to chew the ice.
- Dried Fruits Now you will say unbelievable, dried fruits are healthy snack to have. Yes, they are but many dried fruits like apricot, figs, prunes and raisins naming a few are sticky. So, having a sticky food clings around the teeth leaving behind loads of sugar on the teeth. Have dried fruits but make sure you intake water, brush and then floss after having them. And try to have fresh versions instead.
