Segal Opticians celebrates 50 years providing high quality eye care in Grimsby

The practice welcomes all, from newcomers to loyal patients from its inception

February 1970 saw the start of a new story and legacy as the then new owners of – what is now called – Segal Opticians took over and rebranded an existing optical centre on Cleethorpe Road. Owned by Clive and Carol Segal, the practice has gone from strength to strength over the past 50 years, with many loyal patients – from the start of their venture in the 70s – still visiting for eye care from Mr Segal.

Segal Opticians – also known as C.A. Segal – continues to provide high quality, personable eye care services to the regional community of Grimsby, and uses advanced equipment to achieve this, such as the Optomap, which provides wide field digital photography.

A member of the Association of Optometrists and registered with the General Optical Council, the practice offers:

  • NHS and private eye care testing
  • Surgery advice
  • Vast range of designer frames and sunglasses (including Ray-Ban and Michael Kors)
  • Contact lenses
  • Frame repair service
  • Range of free NHS frames for children under 16

From then to now

After taking over Bob Hirst’s previous optical centre on February 1, 1970, Clive and Carol Segal fashioned their own, distinctive, respected practice.

In 1980, optometrist Paul Bailey joined Segal’s, working with the practice until he eventually retired in 2015. During that time, in 1991, the practice moved to its new – and current – premises further up the street, to 429-431 Oglethorpe Road.

Since Senegal inception, it’s clear that technology and methods have evolved, and the practice has risen to the innovations and challenges that have come its way.

Using the Optos Optomap technology, the wide field digital camera enables the team to see the entire retina in stunning detail and color – each patient has digital photos taken and stored to compare with future images for eye care. Each patient now also receives a visual field check, and all patients aged over 30 have their intraocular pressures checked, all as part of the screening test for glaucoma.

Photography and field screening is expertly supervised by Amanda, the practice’s senior manager of 30 years, accompanied by the reception team – made up of Laura and Natalie.

In the hands of optometrists Clive Segal and Jennifer Reeves, who has been with Segal’s since 2016, patients can expect caring and thorough sight testing with modern examination techniques, accompanied by excellent advice and guidance in looking after your eye care.

With the help of dispensing optician graduate Emma, patients can choose from a comprehensive range of the latest designs and stylish frames at Segal Opticians, including Ray-Ban, Michael Kors, William Morris, Wolf, Storm, Lulu Guinness, Zoffani, as well as a variety of free frames for children up to 16 and some great value budget frames for eye care. Emma can also give advice in order to help you choose the most appropriate spectacle lenses.

The practice fits and looks after various types of contact lenses, from daily disposable to annual replacement lenses, including single vision, spherical and tonic for astigmatism, multi-focal, and cosmetic tinted lenses.

C.A. Segal is located at 429-431 Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby, Lincolnshire, DN31 3BU.
