Is Weight Loss Accelerated by Drinking Warm Water After Meals?

If you have grown up in an Indian household, you have always heard the elderly people tell you to not drink water after a meal, or before a meal, or during a meal. They are also very particular about the temperature of the water they drink and prefer to drink room temperature and lukewarm water, instead of drinking water from the refrigerator. Even in the summer season, to quench their thirst, they use clay pots to keep the water slightly cool but never touch chilled water.

As a child, you may have found these habits to be weird or slightly obsessive. You might have even thought that it is impossible to survive without refrigerated water, considering how hot it is. However, it turns out that the practice of drinking warm water, especially after meals may

even help you in your weight loss goals.

Metabolism plays a very important role in weight loss. Warm water increases body temperature, and thereby also increases metabolic rate. The increased metabolic rate helps burn calories, which is the basis of losing weight. Drinking warm water also improves other functions like that of the kidney and liver.

According to a report on MedicalDaily, physicians recommend drinking warm water with lemon or tea in the morning to decrease the free radical activity in the body, as a means to detox. However, drinking a glass of warm water at any time, especially after your meals can help in the break down of body fat, and also keep cravings away.

Drinking warm water also has other health benefits like alleviating pain, improving blood circulation and also prevent premature ageing.
